About
Created for clients with performance front of mind and a desire to incorporate passive-haus principles where practical, this home carefully balances outlook, orientation, and energy efficiency. With creek views to the south and the road to the north, the design challenge lay in maximising the outlook while maintaining strong performance outcomes.
Influenced by passive-haus principles, the home features UPVC double-glazed windows throughout and additional measures to ensure a well-sealed building envelope. While the layout departs from ideal solar-passive orientation with south-facing living areas, orientating the kitchen to the north — along with the addition of north-facing highlight windows to draw natural light deep into the living spaces — provided an effective compromise. Combined with thoughtful detailing and a client-installed HVAC system, these measures deliver consistent year-round comfort and efficiency.
The result is a refined, high-performing home that captures the best of both worlds — elevated comfort and a strong connection to its beautiful creekside setting.
